Why Is It Important To Be Happy At Work?
Being happy at work is something we all struggle with at some point in our lives. The job is stressful, challenging, and something we do only to make a living for many of us. But do you know how much time you spend at work during your lifetime? Work occupies at least one-third of your life. During your adult life, you spend more time at work than any other activity except sleeping.
A new year begins, and you have in front of you approximately 235 recent days at work…
It is a great time to take stock of your work life and reflect on what makes you happy and what you would like to change. To help you reflect, I would like to share the six ingredients identified. These tips are essential for building and fostering happiness at work.
1. KNOW YOURSELF
Know “your why and your what.” This will help you decide which direction is right for you. By developing our self-awareness, we can explore the avenues open to us more efficiently and make better choices. It is also essential to understand your talents, strengths, and motivations and clarify your career expectations.
2. KNOW THAT YOUR WORK HAS MEANING
No matter what your role, know that your work has meaning. Others rely on your efforts, and the organization depends on you to meet its goals. It would help if you experienced happiness knowing that you are a valued part of the team.
3. FOCUS ON POSITIVE EVERYDAY PROGRESS
Don’t get bogged down in your to-do lists, action plans, and the tasks you haven’t yet completed. Instead, focus on what you have achieved, however small these steps forward may be. Concentrating on and celebrating our positive outcomes and contributions can feel more fulfilled every day.
4. SMILE AT OTHERS IN THE OFFICE
It’s essential to have a positive attitude if you want to be happy at work. Smile at others, ask them how their day is going, and inquire about their weekend plans. Take small breaks throughout the day. Even if you’re busy, it’s essential to take small breaks to avoid stressing out too much. Think about taking a 10-minute break between each primary task to give yourself the space to refresh before working again. A break can include walking around the building or stretching at your desk.
5. CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY AND POSITIVE
An essential step for happiness and well-being at work is making a choice. Who is responsible for your happiness at work? As long as you sit and wait for your manager, company, or colleagues to make you happy, nothing will happen. Things will start to move and improve only when you choose to act. Concretely, it can simply mean being proactive and seeing where and when you can use your influence to improve your situation at work.
6. MAKE A HAPPY ACTION PLAN
For any good plan to succeed, the first step is clarifying your goals. Don’t automatically assume that your goals have to be about doing enormous and complex things. It might simply be about getting on better with your co-workers, working on a specific project… Make a plan that’s fun rather than ambitious. Do one small thing every day. Then, follow up without stress and pressure. It’s time to build your beautiful fence.
