Tips to Make Reading A Habit

Tips to Make Reading A Habit

Remember when we were kids and stayed in bed with a book until we fell asleep? How we would love to be like kids and feel hooked like we did before. However, now we find it hard to keep reading and we often get distracted by distractions and always have an excuse not to read.
For this reason we are going to give you several tips to make reading a habit.
1. Always have a book at hand
People who love to read always tend to have a book at hand. Because how are we going to get back into the habit of reading if we don’t have anything to read?
So here is the first tip: always have a book with you or an audio book or an e-book if it is more convenient for you. That way you will never find yourself without anything to do in your downtime. Whether it is on public transport, on holiday, or while waiting for someone on the street.
2. Find that little bit of free time every day
In reality, we have several free moments in which we can take advantage of to read. This is tip number two: we simply have to replace our mobile, tablet, computer, television, console, with a book. If you can find a time every day at the same time, it will be easier for you to get back into the habit of reading.
You don’t have to read out of obligation, but do try to find that little bit of time that is yours, that little bit to dedicate without distractions to literature. In the same way as with absolutely everything, only practice makes mastery.
3. Rediscover your favorite reading
It is better to start with books that are light, easy to read, and above all that are of the genre that most attracts us. This way it will be more difficult to get hooked and resume the habit of reading daily. Our tip number three is to explore as many books as you can.
Let yourself be dazzled by shelves full of books and you will surely end up finding that story made for you. You may read a book thinking this story represents me. It is an excellent option to explore and discover new books.
However, the worst mistake we can make is to start a book and even if we don’t like it, continue reading. In this way, the only thing we will achieve is to get bored and give up after a few days.
4. Shared reading is twice as good
Here is our fourth tip: Join a reading club or share your books with reading friends. If reading a great story that touches our soul is something moving, being able to share it and express all the emotions we experience with it is something even more incredible.
If you share your readings, you will be much more motivated when it comes to reading. And you will also be able to set reading goals, which will help you even more to get back into the habit of reading.
5. Set up our reading camp
And now that we have chosen our next reading, the next tip is: find our little corner.
During the day we can read wherever we have the opportunity, it is highly recommended to set up what we could call our reading camp. It is that corner of the house that is tidy, quiet, without distractions. And our camp doesn’t need much: with just a comfortable chair, a warm lamp, a soft blanket and a hot drink, we are more than satisfied to read.
6. Avoid distractions
Once you have defined the reading camp, make sure that nothing will prevent you from reading. What you have to do is eliminate distractions, such as electronic devices, calls or unexpected visitors, to create a calm environment.
Nowadays, it is difficult for all of us to concentrate and maintain attention, for this reason, a determining factor for reading more is to avoid all possible distractions. By having a pleasant and dedicated environment, it will be easier for you to immerse yourself in reading and make that space a refuge to enjoy your books.  (SG)
